Bravewood NY Straight Bourbon was distilled in New York state, from New York grains, then also aged and bottled in NY. The mash bill is 73% Corn, 14% Rye and 13% Malted Barley.
For this first bottling, a selection of 5 barrels was made with the intent of letting the whiskey come to an age that would showcase the mash bill and NY produced grains.
The barrels were a mix 2 of the traditional 53 gallon size and 3 of a smaller 30 gallon size that would offer more wood to spirit ratio and impart more flavor and color less time.
Bottled at 90 proof, this bourbon has pleasant notes of toasted oak, orchard fruit, vanilla and light toffee. It also has a very smooth and somewhat creamy mouthfeel, along with hints of chocolate and light tobacco spice.
The yield from this inaugural limited batch was a mere 954 bottles.
